ROAMING LIGHT: THE FANTASY WORLD ON PAPER
Light is the most mesmerizing metaphor in human civilization. It is about the joy of truth, benevolence, enlightenment, as well as the epiphany of wisdom and talent. It is also about things that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Light does not exist in a tangible, material world. It is also more than a figment of people’s imagination. Light is a key medium for mankind to feel a sense of being, it is a beacon guiding the relentless pursuit of meaning. It is also the root of all energies and life.
Wandering Cloud, the team that utilized animation and installation of light to create a fantasy world on paper, is committed to empowering the audience by returning the right of visual experiences initiation in the information explosion era. Without the viewers’ involvement, the artworks cannot be seen. With a profound sentiment towards paper, Suho Memorial Paper Museum attempts to fuse paper with technology and present the modern narration of light on traditional paper material, in turn expand people’s imagination toward paper. Furthermore, in resonance with the Design Taipei Cheers program launched by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Governmen, it is expected to stimulate the audience’s curiosity and desire towards design and arts through supernormal experience and interactive installations.
Within each story in the exhibition, whether it is a bicycle propelling the story forward or a gold fish in the shimmering river, attempts are made to break away from the conventional linear story-telling approach. This is akin to the principle of optics stating that the formation of rainbow phenomenon known as a halo has a circular form that does not have a distinct starting or ending point.
After the light subsides, are the stories along the journey fictitious or real? Before you answer the question, please stride forward dauntlessly to transcend the boundary between fiction and reality, and expand the scope of sensibility, because the fantasy world ahead is calling out to you and a little light is about to brighten up the sky.
